Explorer Strings Registration
This is an introductory group class for beginning violin/viola students that meets biweekly for 4 weeks (8 sessions total) in Summer 2024. We cover the basics for posture and set-up for both hands and learn Pre-Twinkle songs by rote using a Suzuki-based approach.
Please read About the Suzuki Method and watch the video provided. At the end of this introductory class, students may continue with a weekly private lesson and one weekly group class with me or another area teacher.
Classes will be held at 16080 NW 208th Way, High Springs, FL 32643 in a small group of 2-4 children. We will begin with a box violin and will not need an instrument during the first several sessions of the class.
Supplies Needed:
- Yoga Mat or pizza box lid
- empty egg carton
- empty toilet or paper towel tube
- rectangular eraser
- cardboard box (granola bars or cake mix sized)
*I will provide paint stirrer and dowel
Other recommended supplies for beginners:
Step by Step - Recommended book/CD
Polypad - recommended shoulder sponge
Instrument Information: When ready to progress to the instrument, it is important to obtain a good quality instrument that works well. The cheap starter violins sold on Amazon or eBay from China usually are not playable. I would recommend a rental instrument so that students can size up as they grow. Most shops will apply monthly payments towards the purchase price of a full-sized instrument.
