About me:
Dr. Lauren Burns Hodges
I am the Associate Professor of Viola at the University of Florida and have twenty-five years of teaching experience. I currently teach advanced students at the collegiate level, but I have previous experience working with beginners as the Director and Master Teacher at the South Georgia String Project. My pedagogy training is from
Rebecca Henry
and
Mimi Zweig (IU String Academy)
, and I have Suzuki certification for violin and viola book 1. I teach a pedagogy course at UF and train many of the area teachers who offer violin and viola lessons.
Current offerings:
Explorer Strings
is an introductory class for young violinists and violists (ages 7-11) that meets twice weekly in a small group setting (2-4 children per group). We cover the basics for posture and set-up for both hands and learn Pre-Twinkle songs by rote using a Suzuki-based approach. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate so that they can establish the habit of daily practice together at home. (Next offered in Summer 2025)
Suzuki Group, Violin Book 1
is a weekly group class for students who are currently enrolled in weekly private lessons as they progress through Suzuki violin book one. This class is open to students studying privately with any area Suzuki teacher.
Private Lessons
(30 or 60 min) are offered for violin and viola students. Inquire about one free trial lesson to see if we are a good fit.
