Unified around a central theme of dealing with hard things, disappointment, or grief, and always coming back to faith in Christ, Solace is specifically focused on new sacred music for viola. Featuring works by underrepresented composers, the project includes two new commissions for viola and piano by Denzel Washington and Josh Rodriguez, works by African American composers Adolphus Hailstork and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson and by female composers Amanda Harberg and Amy Beach. This CD provides a variety of works for viola solo, viola and piano, viola and organ and a series of six of hymns by John Ferguson performed with the University of Florida Concert Choir and Will Kesling, conductor.
